About the Artist

Ed Saye is a painter of a world that knows the end is nigh but just can’t stop self-destructing.

He paints scenes that often depict fantastical landscapes with individuals or groups of figures engaged in some sort of activity. They could be lounging, idling or bathing, engaged in a dubious ritual or labouring to build a better world. High-minded low subjects, full of good intentions, unable or unwilling to fulfil their destiny. The spirit of utopianism suffuses each painting but there is always a sense that things might not quite work out as they were meant to.

His paintings feature a deliberately eclectic range of subjects united though their atmospheric quality, which is achieved by carefully balancing the artificial light of hope with the unlight of melancholy.

Ed studied at Central Saint Martins and the Slade School of Fine Art in London. He has exhibited around the UK and Europe and his work is held in private collections from the US to China. He lives and works in Hampshire, UK.
